skill unlocking in Nightfall
I hope that it is at least a little different than Factions. I love how fast you unlock skills in Factions versus Prophecies, but the gold cost is just too high. I'd at least like to see more Nightfall skills given as quest rewards, but maybe a new unlock system is in order. How about scrolls or other items which unlock skills when read or used and are dropped after kills and maybe even found in chests? Perhaps those items could even be sellable or tradeable. Regardless, I hope to see something new on this front.

I'd rather earn skills by doing quests, like in prophecies. My next character will be a prophecies char, because you get to do more quests, earm more free skills, and get this cool pre-searing map to play in.
Shing Jea is MUCH to short, TOO much XP spammage, lvl 20 in NO time, where's the fun in that??? I want a HUGE map, LOTS of land to explore, LOTS of quests and mission. I want another Prophecies! That's what I'm paying for!
Factions is like 1/4 the map and the gameplay Prophecies was, but still cost the same. I was disappointed.
I still like Facitons though, it's great, but it should have been bigger, more PvE.
I hope Nightfall will have more PvE content this time, and more skills you can EARN, coz I can't afford all the skills I want in factions...

I'd like to see both implimented. All the skills are already at the skill-traders and you also have quests that give you skills.
At the "trader's" list of skills it would say (Unlocked) next to the ones you have unlocked, much like it is currently and also maybe it could say (Skill Quest Reward) next to the ones that are given by a quest? A small ask that I hope will be implimented ^^.

I agree. While it's nice to have a good range of skills available right away, I definately prefered the Prophecies skill acquisition model. There is much more incentive to trying out the new skills when they are rewarded to you instead of having to guage their usefulness by reading the description and deciding if it will fit into a build configuration.

I actually like having both factions and prophecies, and that they work differently both in skill unlocking and level advancement, and I really like the option to start a char in one or the other depending on how fast I want to develop him. Best of all is the ability to move chars back and forth while your developing them. For example, I'll never take a less than lev 20 char with less than max armor through the crystal desert again.
If I had to choose between the skill unlock systems of prophecies and factions I'd prefer prophecies. I want UAS and that's more feasible with the quest reward system, at least for me. But just as factions shook up some of the established conventions we all knew and accepted from prophecies, I'd like to see Nightfall shake things up some more, again expanding my options for how to develop a single char by moving him among the 3 game worlds. Tying skills to drops would be one way. There'd still be the problem of not getting a skill you need dropped, but if they'rer sellable and/or tradeable that would help. Another possibility would be for the drop to allow you to unlock a skill of your choice in a designated attribute line. I can't believe that anet will just stick with the factions system, but who knows.
